Most cable operators have already implemented DOCSIS3.0 channel bonding, but the potential exists for these operators to increase the maximum number of bonded channels.
DOCSIS3.0 channel bondingCable operators can increase the number of bonded DOCSIS3.0 channels in order to boost their maximum download and upload speeds. It is commonplace for operators to bond eight downstream channels, although upstream channel bonding is relatively limited. This Viewpoint provides an overview of the extent to which operators have implemented downstream and upstream channel bonding. It also assesses expected future trends with regards to operators bonding greater numbers of channels.
This Viewpoint provides:
an assessment of the benefits of DOCSIS3.0 channel bonding in terms of the network's increased maximum speeds and capacity
coverage of the availability of cable modems and cable modem termination system (CMTS) equipment that can support bonding of increasing numbers of channels
commentary on the extent to which operators can increase the number of channels used for data in order to increase the size of the bonding group.
