TCL Alcatel: Step-up Strategy Pays Off as Smartphone Shipments Surpass Feature Phones

TCL-Alcatel shipped a Q2 record breaking number of handsets worldwide in Q2 2014, translating to 39% annual volume growth and 4% global handset market share. This also marks the first quarter in which smartphone shipments surpassed feature phones. Their strongest performance was in the Central & Latin America region, where handset shipments nearly doubled year-on-year to reach a regional market share of 13%. With global shipments, revenues, and profit margin continuing to increase, TCL-Alcatel’s strategy of competing first in the low range and subsequently stepping-up to the mid and high tiers seems to be paying off.
