Global Mobile Service Revenue to Stagnate at $1 Trillion Mark

Global mobile service revenue will post a modest increase in its growth rate in 2014, though after passing the $1 trillion in 2015, will struggle to grow any further. An improving situation in the still-declining European market will be central to these modest gains, with 4G LTE services here and elsewhere helping to stimulate data use and service spend as 3G service revenue begins to fall. Strategy Analytics views 4G LTE as a key part of any revenue growth strategy, but not in itself sufficient to significantly improve the situation for many operators. With limited revenue growth potential, subsidy strategies and consolidation opportunities will remain part of the cost containment picture, while more operators will follow the example of those in Asia, where the quest for revenue growth has focused on services beyond connectivity, such as finance, content and digital lifestyle services.
