At the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan was launched.  Among many innovations, the new model offers the Digital Car Key, an automotive entry system that enables the owner to unlock the vehicle’s doors and start the engine using a Near Field Communication-enabled smartphone handset.  It also enables pairing with the infotainment and body control systems.  The Jaguar F-Pace also offers owners an NFC-enabled Activity Key wristband.  Such recent announcements herald the potential growth of NFC in automotive.
