There were more quarterly results in May, with EADS, IAI and Thales all reporting quarterly increases in revenue in contrast to the batch of results analyzed in April. On the platform front, the US Navy is looking ahead for a new fighter in the 2030s, which could be manned or unmanned. Electronic warfare (EW) programs saw considerable activity in May with the NJG program providing contract opportunities for ITT Exelis. The NJG will use GaN-based AESA for its jamming pods while Cassidian is using GaN technology for the electronic components that will be used for the German Armed Forces' new software-defined radio communications system (KommSysBw). Laser weapons were once again in vogue with Northrop Grumman test firing the first product in its next-generation FIRESTRIKE family of high-energy, solid-state lasers.
