Global Smartphone Sales Forecast for 2

Android and Apple iOS combined will account for the vast majority of all global smartphone sales in 2012, while the rapid decline in sales of Symbian and BlackBerry will continue. Looking forward to 2017, Android and Apple iOS will remain the dominant smartphone platforms, but their combined share will have declined. The main beneficiary of this decline will be Microsoft, although we also forecast nascent platforms such as Tizen and Firefox OS to grow in popularity, as the benefits of HTML5-based ‘cloud phones’ become more apparent. This report forecasts global smartphone sales by OS in 6 global regions and 13 major automotive countries from 2007 to 2017.
