Global Smartphone Sales Forecast by OS for 88 Countries: 2007 to 2017

Android and Apple iOS combined will account for the vast majority of all global smartphone sales in 2012, while the rapid decline in sales of Symbian and BlackBerry will continue. Looking forward to 2017, Android and Apple iOS will remain the dominant smartphone platforms, but their combined share will have declined. The main beneficiary of this decline will be Microsoft, although we also forecast nascent platforms such as Tizen and Firefox OS to grow in popularity, as the benefits of HTML5-based ‘cloud phones’ become more apparent. This report forecasts global smartphone sales, by 11 operating systems, for 88 countries worldwide, from 2007 to 2017. Almost every major country worldwide is covered, including United States, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
