Baseband Market Share Tracker: 2G Momentum Helps Intel Maintain Third Place with 12 Percent Revenue Share in Q2 2012

The cellular baseband market grew an impressive 18 percent year-over-year growth to reach $4.21 billion in Q2 2012. Qualcomm captured 50 percent revenue share on the strength of its strong 3G / 4G baseband portfolio and Snapdragon processor momentum. MediaTek and Intel ranked number two and number three, respectively, in Q2 2012. Intel held up well in Q2 2012 with the help of strong 2G and 3G baseband shipments and ranked number three. This report tracks the cellular baseband unit shipments, ASPs and revenues of 13 baseband chip vendors across six air interface technologies on a quarterly basis and includes provisional data up to Q3 2012.
