Smart Home Systems and Services: Competitors and Installations

The roster of participants in the global market for smart home systems and services continues to grow with early participants, e.g. ADT, Alarm.com and Verizon in the US being joined by retailer Lowes and AT&T among others. Strategy Analytics estimates that there are between 1.1 and 1.3 million homes in the US with either interactive security systems or remote monitoring and control systems (not just IP cameras). In Europe, British Gas, SFR and most recently Swisscom are among the early participants with others, such as Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica poised to launch systems commercially. These firms are partnering with a host of hardware vendors, retailers and technology enablers as they seek their share of the market for smart home systems and services which will reach nearly $72 billion by 2017 globally.
