Lack of Compelling Motivators Hinder Frequency of App Store Visitation

Despite relatively high mobile app store satisfaction levels, regular visitation is low with less than half of smartphone owners in the US and Western Europe accessing their app store at least once per week, on average. US smartphone owners are motivated either by app update notifications or knowing what they specifically want while users in Western Europe are more driven to kill time when bored browsing for a new app. Therefore, app stores need to find new ways to engage users to encourage them to want to regularly access their mobile app stores, especially as the number of applications downloaded in the US and Western Europe has begun to settle. This does present an opportunity for both app stores and app developers, taking a page from one of the most successful third party app stores to date.
